In an ideal model of centrifuge, sludge is put through an immobile feed tube kept aside the centerline of the bowl via a hub of the screw conveyor, which is mounted inside the rotating conical bowl and rotates at a less speed than the bowl. Sludge leaving the end of the feed tube, is accelerated and passes via the ports in the conveyor shaft, and is spread all along the bowls’ periphery. Sediments settle via the liquid pool, are compacted by centrifugal force applied against the bowl walls, and are transferred by the screw conveyor to the drying area of the bowl. The dry area is a slanted part of the bowl where more dewatering happens prior to the discharge of the solids. Separated liquid is dispensed consistently over adjustable weirs at the other end of the bowl.
